The first thing that stroke my mind while doing research about Americas Cardroom, was that there was very little information to be found about their history and ownership.

I had to big deep down in their terms and conditions to find out they operate out of Costa Rica. And the only reference as to when they began was on the front page, claiming that they have been in operation since 2001.

They are running on the Winning Poker Network, which is primarily used by just Americas Cardroom. So, one would assume they have the same ownership. But, there is just as little to be found about who owns and operates Winning Poker Network.

Only after searching for other sources, I found that they are owned by a company called Yatahay Ltd. However, there is little to no information about them as well.

Their Random Number Generator has been externally verified by iTech Labs. Most sites use eCORGA for that, but that is not saying that eCORGA is more trustworthy than iTech Labs.

Overall, there is not much information about Americas Cardroom’s history and ownership. This poses a risk for their players and one should bear that in mind when choosing to play there.

Registration

In order to register and start playing, you will need first to download their poker client. The desktop client is available for both Windows and MAC users.

Since I am a Windows guy, I will base my opinions on that version.

The registration process is quite straight forward and is done inside the poker client. Just fill in your personal details and you are done. After that is it time to make your first cash deposit.

I opted to deposit my money using the NETELLER option. One word of caution though, the minimum deposit for this option is $10, but in order to qualify for the first deposit bonus, you need to deposit a minimum of $25.

So, that’s what I did.

Bonuses

Americas Cardroom offers a 100% first deposit bonus up to $1,000. In my case, that would equal to receiving $25 extra in bonus since my deposit was $25. But, as always, those kind of bonuses are only released in increments based on your contributed rake. For Americas Cardroom, that means increments of $1 per every 27.5 Award Points you earn.

The second main bonus new players receive upon depositing is that to receive $2-$6 free money every day for the coming 20 days after your deposit.

Rake & Loyalty program

The amount of rake taken by Americas Cardroom follows the standard for online poker, it’s basically 5% with a $3 cap for most cash games. For more details about the different rake levels see their website.

Americas Cardroom operates with a decent loyalty program. For each real money game or tournament you play, you will earn both Rank and Combat points, each with their own benefits.

With the Rank Points you will advance in their so-called military ranks. This will unlock new ranks and benefits.

The Combat Points will allow you to trade them for different rewards and benefits.

All of these points and rewards adds an extra spice to your play, as all of this is on top of your normal earnings.

I’d say the loyalty program is a bit confusing to understand for new players, so take your time to understand how it works if you are serious in playing there for a longer period of time.

Gameplay

Americas Cardroom has a quite good selection of game types available. You can tell that they have put a little bit extra effort in trying to find new and fun ways of enjoying poker.

Except for the standard game types (cash games, sit & go, tournaments) they have added two more variations, Jackpots and Sit & Go 2.0.

Jackpots is a fun and quick game-style. You chose your buy-in, spin to see the payout and compete against two other players for the win.

Sit & Go 2.0 works in the same as normal Sit & Go except that before the game begins you and the other players will have the chance to up the payouts by choosing the right cards. This element doesn’t cost anything extra but adds extra spice and excitement to the game. I highly recommend that you try this variation of Sit & Go.

There is no shortage of players or tournaments, so I could easily find myself a lot of games to join and play at. After you join a game it will look like something like this.

Compared to other table views, this is not the best and most intuitive one. They have the basic stuff there, but nothing that really stands out and makes the experience better than normal.

After spending some time with their software I found that it has some bugs. Sometimes it will open a duplicate window, sometimes it will stop working and a restart was required. And sometimes it is just slow when shifting between menus.

Overall, I’d say the gameplay at Americas Cardroom is nice and enjoyable. They have made an effort to make it easy and elegant to navigate and find games in the lobby. I also like the extra “casino” element they added to some game types.

Now, we will look into how easy/hard it is to make money playing poker on Americas Cardroom.

I played 20,657 cash games at No Limit Hold’em $0.02/0.05, 6 player max. I did this by multi-tabling four tables and this made me average around 300 hands per hour. The strategy I used is the one tough by Jonathan Little in his book “Strategies for Beating Small Stakes Poker Cash Games.“ I am by no means a professional poker player. I am an amateur player, playing mostly for fun and thus that is my benchmark.

I tracked all my games using PokerTracker and turned my initial deposit of $25 into $430

This shows that by using a sound poker strategy, it is possible to make money playing poker on Americas Cardroom.
